About The Position

Newberry Community School is seeking a Paraprofessional, ESE to support teachers in delivering instruction, managing classroom behavior, and fostering a positive learning environment for students with exceptional needs. This role assists with instructional activities, provides student supervision, and helps address the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students while maintaining a safe and organized classroom setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution, or passing score on an accepted ParaPro Assessment, required
  • Ability to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • English and mathematics skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions without close supervision
  • Knowledge of technology and ability to apply it to assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to perform clerical tasks
  • Ability to plan and organize
  • Knowledge of the operation of office and audio-visual equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and administrators

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of successful experience working with students preferred, with experience in special education students, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with specialized instruction and training for exceptional student education students
  • Assist teachers in preparing materials and equipment for instruction, including copying, collating, and organizing materials
  • Support students with behavioral and social/emotional needs as directed
  • Review lesson plans and anticipate needed supplies and materials
  • Facilitate the use of assistive technology
  • Lead small group activities as planned by the teacher in an engaging learning environment
  • Assist with student supervision in classrooms, on buses, during lunch, recess, and other school activities
  • Escort students to designated areas such as the media center or clinic
  • Perform approved health procedures after proper training, as directed by the Health Services Supervisor
  • Assist with student screening and assessment activities
  • Support teachers in adapting curriculum to meet student needs
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment
  • Manage computer-assisted instruction
  • Provide general student supervision as assigned
  • Assist in maintaining the security of records, materials, and equipment
  • Support enforcement of classroom rules and maintenance of records
  • Assist in monitoring student progress, including test proctoring, grading, and maintaining confidential records
  • Provide instructional support as directed by the teacher
  • Perform assigned clerical and basic bookkeeping duties
  • Follow all applicable safety standards
  • Attend staff meetings and required trainings
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the public using good judgment and professionalism
  • Identify potential issues or areas for improvement and keep supervisors informed
  • Support the school’s goals and priorities
  • Follow attendance, punctuality, and dress code expectations
  • Maintain confidentiality of all school and workplace matters
  • Manage time efficiently and effectively
  • Model and uphold high ethical standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
