About The Position

The Paraprofessional Aide III - ESOL will assist teachers in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning environment where limited English students can fully benefit from the instructional program and available resources. This role involves sharing in teaching responsibilities (excluding those reserved for certified teachers), supervising students, performing clerical duties, and contributing to a safe learning environment. The aide will also help with creating instructional materials, preparing records, assessing student progress, and communicating with staff and parents. A key aspect of this role is translating and interpreting home/school communications for parents/guardians as needed, and working with school personnel to establish and maintain the Parent Leadership Council.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable ability to speak, write, and understand a foreign language used in a specific school setting.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AA Degree or higher, or 60 semester college credits, or Passing Score on the ParaPro Assessment Test.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of limited English proficient students.
  • Knowledge of general computer use.
  • Willing to learn the unique educational and/or personal needs of an individual LEP student in order to be able to assist him/her.
  • Ability to listen and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Responsibilities

  • Share in all teaching responsibilities except those reserved by the law to certified teachers.
  • Assist in the supervision of students as assigned.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist in creating a safe learning environment.
  • Implement classroom activities as directed.
  • Assist staff members with behavioral management.
  • Assist with the development of instructional materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate records and reports.
  • Assist with assessing student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and parents.
  • Work closely with the school personnel in establishing and maintaining the Parent Leadership Council at the school site.
  • Translate and/or interpret home/school communication to parents/guardians on an as-needed basis.
  • Use specialized equipment as required.
  • Intervene, when appropriate, to situations concerning discipline of students.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors.
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions as required.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities.
  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
