About The Position

The ESOL Lead Instructor provides high-quality English language instruction to adult learners while serving as the instructional lead for the ESOL program. This position teaches assigned classes, supports participant success and persistence, promotes workforce and postsecondary transitions, and assists with the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices across ESOL services. The ESOL Lead Instructor guides instructional practices, supports instructor onboarding and mentoring, shares instructional resources, and promotes continuous improvement across ESOL programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, ESOL, Adult Education, Linguistics, or related field.
  • Hold an Arizona Adult Education Teacher Certification or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Minimum one year of teaching English language learners, adult learners, or related populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and effective instructional strategies.
  • Ability to utilize educational technology and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening hours.
  • Ability to travel to various Yavapai College campuses throughout Yavapai County.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, ESOL, Adult Education, Linguistics, Education, or related field.
  • Experience leading and teaching adult ESOL in a Title II Adult Education program.
  • Experience with TABE and adult education assessment procedures.
  • Experience with workforce preparation, IELCE, career pathways, or IET programming.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned ESOL classes in a variety of instructional modalities, including in-person, HyFlex, hybrid, and virtual formats.
  • Teach daytime and evening ESOL classes during each instructional term.
  • Develop and deliver standards-aligned instruction that integrates English language acquisition, digital literacy, workforce readiness, and civics education.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide individualized academic support to promote measurable skill gains and educational attainment.
  • Maintain attendance records, instructional documentation, participant records, and program data in accordance with Adult Education requirements.
  • Serve as the instructional lead for ESOL programming by guiding instructional practices, supporting instructors’ onboarding and mentoring, sharing instructional resources, and promoting evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Collaborate with Adult Education leadership to support program improvement initiatives, professional learning, and instructional consistency across ESOL services.
  • Support participant retention, persistence, and educational goal attainment through regular communication, outreach, and follow-up.
  • Assist participants with educational, workforce, and postsecondary planning.
  • Connect participants to college, career, workforce, and community resources.
  • Support participant transitions to workforce training, IET programs, postsecondary education, and employment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to promote participant success and pathway advancement.
  • Collaborate with HSE instructional staff to support workforce readiness, digital literacy, career exploration, and postsecondary transition activities.
  • Assist with HSE participant recruitment, orientations, persistence initiatives, TABE testing, and transition planning activities.
  • Provide instructional support related to employability skills, college readiness, workforce preparation, and career pathway development.
  • Support implementation of workforce-aligned instructional activities that increase participant readiness for employment, training, and postsecondary education.
  • Assist with special projects and initiatives that promote participant persistence, credential attainment, and successful transitions.
