About The Position

This position is for a Paraprofessional working 1:1 with K-2 students in the STRIVE program. The role requires 7 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch, for 191 days per year, which includes one day of CPI training. The ideal candidate is at least 18 years old, well-mannered, punctual, dependable, and enjoys working with children. Specific licensure or the ability to obtain it is required, along with a high school diploma or equivalent. The ability to perform all job-related functions, follow directions, and maintain good working relationships is essential. A physical and TB test, as well as CPI training, are mandatory.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age for Pre-K through 5th Grade
  • Educator Licensure with Stipulation or valid Illinois Teaching Licensure or 90-day sub licensure
  • Proof of 60 college hours from an accredited college or pass either the ETS ParaPro Assessment test or ACT Work Keys Assessment test
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform all job-related functions
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or written directions
  • Ability to communicate and maintain good working relationships with other employees and general staff of the assigned school
  • Must pass pre-placement agility/fit for duty exam with MOHA
  • Must take CPI course and refresher courses

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher with the students in the classroom
  • Assist teacher with supervision of students in the lunchroom, on the playground, and when proceeding to and from the buses
  • Use copying machine with teacher supervision to make materials for the classroom
  • Assist with feeding/toileting of students requiring total care
  • Assist with lifting and positioning of non-ambulatory students
  • Assist student with self help skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned
