About The Position

The Orange County Emergency Services Department has openings for permanent Paramedics. The work involves the responsibility for responding to emergency and non-emergency calls received by the Orange County Emergency Services Department, providing initial medical assessment and treatment to individuals, including advanced life support procedures and ensuring emergency medical care is provided in accordance with established guidelines and written and verbal instructions from the Medical Director and Emergency Services management. Work is performed under the general supervision of the EMS Supervisor with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Acting as a lead worker may be a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required. Orange County Permanent Employees Only the hiring salary for this posting will be based on current salary of qualified internal candidate chosen for this position and in accordance with the Orange County Personnel Ordinance. Classification Salary Range $57,347-76660 This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. This position is part of random testing. Fitness for Duty Assessment required. SBI background Check required.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
  • One (1) year of work experience as an Emergency Medical Technician or closely related work experience in the medical field
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Paramedic Certification recognized in the State of North Carolina
  • Must have Paramedic Certification on start date
  • Possession of a current Driver’s License valid in the State of North Carolina
  • All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a Fit-for-Duty Assessment, pre-employment drug testing and background check
  • Participation in the County Drug and Alcohol Screening program is required
  • Candidates may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check
  • Satisfactory verification of eligibility for employment
  • Successful completion of required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required
  • Submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of new hire paperwork

Nice To Haves

  • An employee may be hired as a Paramedic Trainee if they do not meet the minimum qualifications of a Paramedic at the rate of a Paramedic Trainee. Upon successful completion of a probationary period in accordance with the Orange County Personnel Ordinance, the salary will increase to the entry salary of a Paramedic.
