About The Position

The Emergency Department is seeking a 60–90% Paramedic to assist with basic emergency patient care services at the Medical Center North Liberty under the direct supervision of an Emergency Department staff physician and/or Emergency Department Nurse Manager or designee. The role provides care in accordance with the Iowa Department of Public Health Paramedic Scope of Practice and supports registered nurses and licensed independent practitioners in delivering patient care appropriate to the patient’s condition and age. The position is located in North Liberty, Iowa. The schedule includes rotating days off each week, with shifts rotating between days, evenings, and nights. This is a regular salaried position with a fringe benefit package.

Requirements

Graduation from high school.
Current paramedic certification from the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider course completion card from the American Heart Association.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course completion card from the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of advanced life support field experience as an emergency response paramedic, or current emergency-room experience with a history of advanced life support field experience.
Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) certification.
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) certification.
Associate degree in Paramedic.

Responsibilities

Assist registered nurses and/or licensed independent practitioners in delivering patient care appropriate to the patient’s condition and age.
Provide care within the Iowa Department of Public Health Paramedic Scope of Practice, including airway and breathing assessment, blood chemistry analysis, pharmacological interventions, emergency trauma care, manual cervical stabilization, and medical/cardiac care.
Complete point-of-care testing.
Provide psychological support to patients and families based on assessed needs.
Communicate pertinent changes in patient condition or disposition and report unusual incidents.
Perform related and routine clerical tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
