About The Position

Join Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital, a Magnet Hospital providing state-of-the-art healthcare. The Paramedic provides immediate medical treatment to Emergency Department patients with critical injuries, illnesses and other concerns, working under the direct supervision of an RN. This role requires quick thinking and processing in time-sensitive emergency situations.

The position works 36 hours per week, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Responsibilities include clinical patient care and assisting with procedures, equipment, transport, and maintenance of supplies. Caregivers must follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program.
• Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
• Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic Training Program.

Nice To Haves

• International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification.
• One year of experience as an EMT-P.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of an RN.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy, and oral, nasal, and/or ET suctioning.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and saline locks.
• Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
• Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
• Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
• Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, and other procedures.
• Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
• Transport patients and specimens.
• Assist with sterile procedures and clean and maintain supplies and equipment.
• Perform fluid and drug administration.
• Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.
