About The Position

Integrative Emergency Services (IES) is seeking skilled and compassionate Paramedics to support Emergency Department teams at St. Luke's Health facilities in Lufkin and Livingston. The role provides direct patient care, assists with patient throughput, and helps ensure compliance with ED protocols and standards. Paramedics support patient flow, lobby safety, and clinical and operational processes. PRN opportunities are available, with a minimum commitment of three shifts per month. The position requires active registration with Texas DSHS. The role works with the triage team, nurses, providers, Patient Access Services staff, and ED leadership. It includes monitoring patients and vital signs, supporting IV starts and phlebotomy, tracking orders and delays in EPIC, assisting with durable medical equipment and procedures, and helping manage front-end ED tasks. US-guided IV placement may be performed after competency training and approval. Locations and listed shifts are St. Luke's Lufkin ER, 1201 W Frank Ave, Lufkin, TX 75904, and St. Luke's Livingston ER, 1717 US-59 Loop, Livingston, TX 77351; both list shifts from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The work environment is a fast-paced emergency department with varied clinical scenarios and requires physical stamina and adaptability to shift-based schedules. Requirements

Certified Paramedic with active licensure.
Active registration with Texas DSHS.
Ability to perform IV starts, phlebotomy, durable medical equipment application, and procedure assistance.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with EPIC and other clinical software used to monitor orders, delays, and patient progress.
Critical-thinking ability to recognize avoidable delays, identify escalation needs, and proactively manage tasks.
Ability to collaborate with the ED team.
Physical stamina and adaptability to shift-based schedules.

Nice To Haves

Experience in an emergency department or a similar high-paced clinical setting.
Competency in ultrasound-guided IV placement, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Monitor and update patient vital signs according to policy and Emergency Severity Index scoring; identify abnormal vital signs and address overdue notifications in EPIC.
Maintain observation of patients in the lobby and newly arriving patients, identify changes in condition, and help maintain lobby order and safety.
Use laptops or Workstations on Wheels to make real-time updates in EPIC.
Assist with IV starts and phlebotomy under the direction of the triage team, communicating with the team to reduce delays.
Monitor EPIC for unacknowledged orders, lab delays, sample collection issues, and radiology delays; communicate delays to appropriate staff and escalate when needed.
Assist with applying durable medical equipment and splints to support discharge processes.
Coordinate with Patient Access Services staff to ensure required patient consents are signed before triage or discharge; monitor EPIC for pending discharges and notify PAS when consents are needed.
Identify patients more than 20 minutes from triage to provider without active orders; notify the triage team about initiating Standard Medically Delegated Orders and assist with related tasks.
Perform ultrasound-guided IV placement after completing competency training and receiving approval, if eligible.
Assist providers with wound care, suture setup, and other procedures under direct provider guidance.
Collaborate with the triage team on EKGs, IVs, blood draws, and vital signs, with a goal of less than 10 minutes from door to EKG for applicable patients.
