About The Position

The Paramedic provides emergency department patient care at Monroe Regional Hospital’s Emergency Center. Duties include performing EKGs, triaging patients, venipuncture, and cleansing, dressing, or splinting wounds as ordered. Under the direction of an emergency physician, registered nurse, or MLP, the Paramedic assists with tests and procedures commonly performed for critical care and trauma patients. The Paramedic collects and labels specimens, performs point-of-care glucose, urine pregnancy, and urine dip tests, obtains visual acuity readings and EKGs, starts IVs, administers oxygen, delivers stat specimens to the laboratory, and picks up blood from the blood bank, following established procedures. The role also includes checking equipment, stocking patient-care areas, exchanging ALS medications, maintaining cleanliness, and handling linen and trash as needed on off shifts. The Paramedic documents care and treatment in emergency charts, receives and communicates critical laboratory results according to policy, and discharges patients without prescriptions with written instructions as directed by an emergency physician, MLP, or RN. Other duties include transporting patients, providing post-mortem care, and assisting with transport of bodies to the morgue. The role requires effective teamwork and communication with patients, families, physicians, and other health-care team members. This is a full-time, 36-hour-per-week position on the night shift. Flexibility to work varying schedules, shifts, overtime, or shift durations beyond assigned hours may be required based on patient census, activity, and staffing needs.
