About The Position

Supervises the monitor techs in the Centralized Telemetry Room as well as participates in the observation of cardiac monitors as needed. The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Paramedic certification by the State of North Carolina required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) as sponsored by American Heart Association required.
  • Minimum of one year experience as a Paramedic.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
  • Works at Computer/Monitor for long periods.
  • Remains calm under emergency situations.
  • Sits for prolonged periods; must be able to communicate verbally.
  • Must possess auditory and visual acuity to accurately perform job functions.
  • Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.

Responsibilities

  • Performs supervisory duties for the shift.
  • Assists staff to resolve clinical issues.
  • Assumes responsibility for monitoring cardiac rhythms.
  • Performs telemetry monitoring duties.
  • Alerts nurse to respond to alarms resulting from rhythm changes.
  • Alerts nursing assistant or other competent staff member to respond to equipment or reception alarms (such as “leads off” or “low battery.”).
  • Prints and documents strip assessment every four hours, on admission, during a code, upon request and as rhythms/rates change.
  • Manages multiple priorities.
  • Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
