About The Position
Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) performs individually assigned patient care activities based upon established patient care policies and procedures. Specific areas of responsibility include: monitoring of patient vital signs, providing patient hygiene and comfort measures, assisting with medical procedures, fulfilling nutritional needs, and maintenance of a record of the care provided as assigned. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov’t. Code §§ 3100, 3102) Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization’s standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
Requirements
- Must have and maintain current licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) in the state of California.
- Must have and maintain BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
- Ability to speak English, write legibly, and read, understand and follow directions.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as metric system proportions and percentages if required.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Basic computer skills.
Responsibilities
- Monitors patient vital signs.
- Provides patient hygiene and comfort measures.
- Assists with medical procedures.

- Cooperates in team planning and execution of patient care tasks.
- Obtains and interprets patient information, considering growth and development across all age groups.
- Transports patients to and from various hospital units.
- Assists with patient ambulation and positioning using safe body mechanics.
- Assists with basic care needs such as feeding, bathing, hygiene, vital signs, and toileting.
- Assists with dietary needs by setting up trays, feeding patients, and documenting intake.
- Provides and stocks equipment and supplies for patient rooms or procedures.
- Obtains, prepares, and transports specimens to the lab.
- Monitors and documents patient care, reporting variances and patient concerns to the RN.
- Performs other unit-specific duties, assists with supply counts, and assembles patient records.
- Identifies and anticipates patient needs.
- Interacts with patients to determine needs and coordinates with RN.
- Communicates pertinent patient information to the Nurse.
- Participates in adherence to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.
- Ensures documentation reflects compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Attends work on site and arrives on time.
