About The Position

The County of Brant is seeking two Paramedic Superintendents for a contract position lasting up to six months. Requirements

  • Current certification as Primary Care or Advance Care Paramedic in the Province of Ontario.
  • Class F Driver’s License.
  • Thorough working knowledge of all practices and procedures related to the effective operation of ambulance units.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable legislation and regulations including but not limited to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ambulance Act and Regulations, Life Support Care Standards, Vehicle/Equipment Standards, Human Rights Code, MFIPPA/FIPPA/EFIPPA.
  • Proven ability to direct, motivate and train staff.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgement in emergency situations and with respect to public relations.
  • Proven ability to effectively handle labour relations issues within a unionized work environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational, records management and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and apply safe work practices.
  • Demonstrated communication, team, interpersonal and public relations skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience in an emergency medical service would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all assigned ambulance operations within the County of Brant Ambulance Service to ensure efficient service is maintained at all times.
  • Ensure all applicable operating policies and procedures are understood and implemented by staff.
  • Perform periodic performance evaluation audits to identify training and job rotation needs.
  • Conduct training programs for staff and the general public as required.
  • Ensure good public relations standards are maintained with respect to contact with the public, other governmental or outside organizations and participating in the community relations programs.
  • Liaise with staff, Ministry of Health/LTC, Fire and Police Departments, hospitals, community colleges and other organizations.
  • Ensure all assigned facilities, equipment and vehicles are maintained and all general supplies and vehicle supplies are safeguarded and maintained at proper levels.
  • Maintain a review of subordinates and operating reports. Recommend remedial action required and ensure all reports are prepared, processed, maintained and reported to the Duty Manager.
  • Maintain and review documentation to ensure it is completed in accordance with the Ambulance Act and Ministry of Health/LTC
  • Liaise with staff CACC and Allied Agencies as required.
  • Maintain established operational vehicle counts and personnel levels as per operating policies and procedures.
  • Handle day-to-day labour relations issues.
  • Participate in CME and mandatory training and training of co-op, college, advanced and basic care students.
  • Perform duties as a paramedic as required.
  • Required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and participate in on call.
  • Other duties as assigned.
