About The Position

As a Paramedic (ACP or PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You will treat patients by administering medications, advanced life support (ALS) or basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, electrical therapy (ACP) or semi-automated defibrillation (PCP, and other treatments within the Alberta College of Paramedics’ Scope of Practice for an Advanced Care Paramedic or Primary Care Paramedic. You may also lead the ALS/BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, are properly stocked and equipped.

Requirements

  • Maintain registered professions status at the Advanced Care Paramedic or Primary Care Paramedic designation with the Alberta College of Paramedics and be to deliver medical services by being compliant to the employment requirements of Alberta Health Services.
  • Proven proficient use a computer and numerous software programs. (, Microsoft Office, others)
  • Perform and meet objectives during stressful situations.
  • Work in a team environment or independently to accomplish a task and meet the goals and objectives.
  • Interpret information and comprehend messages provided through oral and written communications.
  • Express ideas, oral and written, in a clear, concise, understandable and grammatically correct manner.

  • Work is physically demanding
  • Emergency medical personnel must lift loads well over 20 kilograms, such as patients on stretchers.
  • Must follow safety precautions to avoid injury when working with equipment and around biological hazards.
  • Must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 10 kg in each hand and assume awkward positions.
  • Must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods.
  • Emergency medical personnel work indoors and outdoors.
  • Often deal with stressful circumstances and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
  • Full-time Temporary employees may work shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May work 10, 12, or 14 -hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and non-emergency EMS services safely, effectively, and within scope of training and certification.

  • Maintain responsibility for personal safety, security, and wellbeing while on duty.
  • Support the care, maintenance, security, and control of station assets, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
  • Complete required reports, scheduled assignments, and participate in departmental programs, projects, and committees.
  • Assist with quality management initiatives, training, equipment maintenance, inventory control, and development or review of procedures and specifications.
  • Follow and support all Health & Safety legislation, policies, training, emergency drills, and safety initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
