About The Position

We are seeking a Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to the Compliance and Mission Support group (CLK) across the Laboratory’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and legal compliance programs within the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). As a Paralegal, you will work closely with attorneys and other professionals in CLK and OGC to provide legal, administrative, and related support integral to the organization’s operations. You will support ERM initiatives by maintaining risk-related records, tracking mitigation actions, compiling reports, and assisting with governance and compliance documentation. You will also maintain confidential compliance databases/case management systems, track cases, monitor deadlines, and prepare reports and metrics related to compliance activities. Additionally, you will support compliance investigations and workloads by organizing records, collecting documentation, preparing chronologies, and maintaining investigative files. You will conduct initial intake with customers and prepare intake notes for review and triage. You will conduct legal, regulatory, and policy research related to compliance requirements to support attorneys and other compliance professionals in matters affecting Laboratory operations. You will track legal developments for key issues impacting the Lab, assist the Lab with critical legal and compliance matters, and assist in export reviews, government filings and record keeping. You will also assist attorneys and professional staff with scheduling and calendaring, interact with APL’s management, other internal clients, and outside contacts, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree from an accredited U.S. institution, with three or more years of specific paralegal experience with a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize among a wide variety of projects.
  • Strong skills in data and internet research, written and verbal communication, and building professional relationships.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to work closely with a wide variety of staff and experience levels, including all levels of management both within the organization and with government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be a standout colleague.
  • Dedicated work ethic, sound judgment, professional demeanor, and be customer focused and discreet.
  • Able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a final Secret level clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting one or more of the following functions: enterprise risk management, international trade compliance, employment law, ethics and conduct, government contracting compliance, or workplace investigations.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Legal Studies from an accredited U.S. institution or a paralegal certificate.
  • An active Security clearance.
