As a Paralegal within the Appeals, Regulatory Litigation, and Capital Public Records Practice Group of the Civil Services Division, your primary focus involves assisting and working with attorneys assigned to civil enforcement, tax, and elections matters. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in paralegal studies or legal assistance and two years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or work involving legal procedures, terminology, or administration OR Certificate in Paralegal Studies + Two years of legal support experience needed OR Bachelor’s or higher in paralegal studies, legal assistant, or a related field – no experience needed OR Bachelor’s or higher in an unrelated field + an Associate or Certification in paralegal studies – no experience needed OR Two years of paralegal experience + Two years of legal support experience

Responsibilities

  • Conducts legal research and provides summaries
  • Prepares documents and exhibits
  • Assembles necessary information for legal proceedings
  • Drafts a variety of legal documents
  • Maintains case files and case logs
  • Reviews legal documents for completeness and conformance to specific requirements
  • Interviews witnesses and clients to obtain or clarify case preparation information
  • Identifies deficiencies and discrepancies detected during file and document examination and takes appropriate action
  • Manages litigation calendars and monitors court deadlines to ensure timely filings
  • Communicates with clients, government agencies, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, and court personnel
  • Coordinates the intake, tracking, and processing of public records requests in accordance with applicable state public records laws and agency policies
  • Monitors changes in court rules, public records laws, election laws, tax statutes, and administrative procedures affecting litigation support
