About The Position

This position provides broad-based paraprofessional support to in-house counsel in performing all legal tasks related to the implementation of Empire State Development’s economic development mission and purpose.

Requirements

  • Associate degree and successful completion of a paralegal certificate program.
  • Significant related experience may be substituted for education requirements.
  • Five years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in a government, corporate setting, or law firm.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collegially and effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Proficiency in data management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support legal and public affairs divisions in research and analysis of program and legal issues, providing detailed and timely written analysis.
  • Prepare initial drafts, proofread, cite check, and finalize diverse legal documentation for corporate, lending, litigation, and bond issuance activities.
  • Correspond with the public regarding ESD's activities.
  • Draft and file documents for the formation of corporate entities under the supervision of the Corporate Secretary.
  • Assist with responsibilities for meetings of directors of ESD and its subsidiaries, including ensuring quorum, arranging transcription and video conferencing.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of corporate authorization requests and maintain the schedule for board meetings.
  • Prepare corporate minutes and resolutions.
  • Provide litigation support, including drafting correspondence, monitoring actions, coordinating document production, accepting service of papers, and filing legal papers.
  • Assist with the Corporation’s annual Public Authorities Reporting and Information System compliance and preparation of annual subsidiary reports.
  • Provide back-up support for responding to Freedom of Information Law requests, maintaining logs, and corresponding with the public.
  • Arrange for public hearings, including reviewing and publishing legal notices, obtaining affidavits of publication, booking meeting space, supervising stenographic records, and posting documents to the ESD website.
  • Create and maintain departmental files.
  • Maintain the in-house legal library.
