Works under the direction of a Supervisory Legal Assistant to review files and documents for a variety of criminal or civil cases to become familiar with the issues and identify pertinent material. Establishes and maintains an effective system of compiling, indexing, and organizing this information and its sources. Participates and assists in preparation for trial by compiling, organizing, and indexing various trial documents. Marks and identifies trial documents and drafts a list of documents offered at trial. Range of legal tasks include, but are not limited to copying, mailing, closing files, maintaining pleadings and maintaining a calendar system for assigned attorneys which accurately keeps track of due dates for pleading, hearings, and court appearances and other document and meeting deadlines. Maintain electronic case files which are organized, current, accessible, and retrievable and mains integrity of data inputted into the case management system. Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks. Review and summarize information in prescribed format on case precedent and decisions. Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks. Assists AUSAs by preparing, scheduling, reviewing and organizing discovery, notifying, and managing witnesses. Aids in organizing evidence for production as discovery and for use in trial.
