About The Position

This position designs, develops, and delivers comprehensive training programs for paralegals within the Pima County Attorney’s Office. This role involves assessing training needs, creating curriculum, conducting training sessions, and evaluating program effectiveness. Paralegal Trainers ensure that paralegals acquire advanced skills in legal research, document drafting, and case management through structured learning and mentorship. This position may perform paraprofessional legal work assisting attorneys in case preparation and may provide coverage for other staff members when needed.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in paralegal, legal assistant, law, business, legal secretary, criminal justice, political science, interdisciplinary studies, regional development, communications or a closely-related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment or a certificate of completion in paralegal or legal assistant studies from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved program at an accredited college or university
  • One year of work experience performing paraprofessional-level work in a law office or legal setting as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, or Legal Secretary, or work involving legal procedures, terminology, or administration
  • OR: One year of work experience with Pima County as a Paralegal
  • Valid driver license at time of application
  • Valid AZ driver license at time of appointment
  • Successful completion of a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review
  • Pre-employment background checks
  • Post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history
  • Satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies may be required
  • Post-job offer physical and/or drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Assesses training needs and identifies skill gaps among paralegals
  • Develops and updates training curriculum based on legal trends and county goals
  • Designs engaging and interactive training sessions, workshops, and seminars
  • Coordinates logistics for training delivery, including scheduling and materials preparation
  • Conducts training sessions to educate paralegals on legal research methods and techniques
  • Teaches document drafting skills, emphasizing clarity, accuracy, and compliance
  • Provides instruction on case management practices and software utilization
  • Evaluates training outcomes and assesses participant understanding and skill development
  • Gathers feedback from participants to continuously improve training programs
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure training content is accurate and relevant
  • Stays informed about changes in laws and regulations affecting paralegal responsibilities
  • Mentors and coaches paralegals on professional development and career advancement
  • Maintains training records and prepares reports for management on training program effectiveness
