About The Position

This paralegal position supports the Real Estate and Transactions Teams for the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) and affiliated entities and reports to the Director of MUHA Legal Affairs and the MUSC General Counsel. The ideal candidate will be organized and detail oriented and have experience in both high-volume real estate leasing and purchasing matters, as well as corporate formations, maintenance, and strategic transactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced course work or certification in paralegal studies.
  • Minimum of five years of transactional real estate and/or business experience.
  • Experience in a higher education, healthcare, or government setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys and senior staff within the Office of General Counsel in preparing and reviewing contracts, leases, loan documents, disclosures schedules, and title documents for a wide range of real estate and business assets
  • Organizing, reviewing and analyzing legal documents and due diligence materials. Preparing and organizing legal documents and processing approvals and signatures for transaction closings. Willingness to master cutting edge software and workflow processes to aid in information retention and recovery.
  • Conducts research regarding routine legal questions as requested by attorneys within the Office of General Counsel. Coordinates and serves as liaison between the legal department and other health system departments in providing assistance with various legal or risk related issues that may arise from time to time; maintains appropriate electronic files to track legal or risk issues that arise from time to time.
  • Administrative responsibilities to include: back up administrative support, scheduling, telephone support, processing mail, procurement of supplies and services, reviewing incoming accounts payable, etc. Anticipates administrative needs without direction and works independently.
  • Performs various legal support tasks, including but not limited to preparation of documents, letters, and memoranda for the Director of Legal Affairs or other attorneys within the office; effectuates and coordinates appropriate service of, and legal response, from affected departments in a timely fashion. Reviews, prepares, or coordinates preparation, service and/or acceptance of appropriate documents or information in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned. As a member of the MUSC Office of General Counsel, provide guidance under appropriate attorney supervision on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues.
