About The Position

The paralegal in this position works as a legal assistant for the domestic violence prosecutions and prosecutions involving child victims or juvenile defendants that are pending in the local juvenile and domestic relations district court. Another responsibility of this position will be to serve as the paralegal for victim restitution orders, including tracking the need for orders and preparation of some restitution orders.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in paralegal studies or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Must pass a criminal background check and driving record check

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a paralegal certification (RP or CP) is preferred
  • Preference for applicants with 3 to 5 years of experience in an administrative position in a law office

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage various legal documents, ensuring their accuracy in terms of spelling, punctuation, format, and grammar.
  • Drafting correspondence for attorney review.
  • Maintaining confidential case files.
  • Compiling data for reports on case progress.
  • Prepare and review case files.
  • Managing court calendars.
  • Arranging continuances.
  • Attending court to support legal staff.
  • Coordinating court filings.
  • Updating court case schedules.
  • Answer phones, greet visitors, and handle public inquiries.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with judges, clerks, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Operate office equipment.
  • Organize workspaces.
  • Perform financial management tasks such as budgeting and grant administration.
  • Monitoring expenditures.
  • Liaising with the finance department.
  • Maintaining proficiency in legal research and case management systems.
