About The Position

Under the direction of the Site Administrator and supervision of the After School Program Coordinator, the Paraeducator assists with student supervision at an assigned school site during after-school enrichment programs. The role supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth through tutoring, homework assistance, behavior management, and participation in educational and recreational activities. The Paraeducator also assists with instructional materials, lesson plans, and routine clerical and support tasks for instructional personnel.

The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The position is listed as 19.5 hours.

Requirements

• Completion of 12th grade or equivalent.
• Two years of experience working with students; college coursework in psychology, elementary education, or child growth and development may be substituted for experience.
• Meet ESSA (or NCLB) compliance through at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate degree or higher, or passing the paraprofessional test provided by Santa Cruz City Schools.
• Submit a letter of introduction, NCLB compliance documentation (transcript, copy of an associate degree or higher, or proficiency exam result letter), and a resume.

Responsibilities

• Tutor individual students or small groups, reinforce instruction, and support students in completing homework.
• Observe and manage student behavior during educational and recreational activities.
• Collaborate to help create an after-school environment that promotes students’ academic, social, and emotional growth and well-being.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and implementing lesson plans.
• Perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel.
