About The Position

Under the direction of the principal, perform skilled support to the Program Teacher/ESL Facilitator in providing supplemental instructional services to designated Bilingual or Migrant students. This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position. Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant. Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office. Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (260-day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Requirements

  • AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (para-educator assessment).
  • Bilingual/literate in Spanish and English or Russian and English preferred and/or may be required depending on assignment/work location.
  • Ability to communicate in one-on-one or small groups with students, teachers, parents and administrators utilizing bilingual skills (preferred and/or required).
  • Must have basic math skills utilizing pre-algebra, ability to explain science, social studies, health, home economics, art and music concepts.
  • Must be able to write and edit.
  • Must be able to work with staff and students, including the monitoring and disciplining of student activities.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including a basic computer/Chromebook including Google applications and copier.
  • Ability to learn and monitor various student learning apps and programs.
  • Sensitivity toward children; ability to promote a child’s self-concept and self-regulation skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize daily workload.
  • Must possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to interact successfully with students.
  • Must be able to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress, and to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified under contract.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English and another language preferred and/or may be required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and software.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in training to learn to effectively preview and review skills and concepts.
  • Work with students one-on-one and in small groups to assist with mastery of skills and concepts.
  • Assist with student selection process for Migrant and Bilingual programs, helping to administer and review language proficiency assessments and student migrant status, prioritizing students for assistance.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining student files, sending out entry letters to parents and setting schedules with teachers.
  • Assist in preparing student withdrawal information for migrant program.
  • Assist with testing.
  • Assist in maintaining required records, student count and record test scores.
  • Assist in contacting parents.
  • Attend Migrant/Bilingual staff meetings.
  • Perform such other duties as, from time to time, may be assigned.
