Paraeducator / Teacher Assistant Special Education
About The Position
This is a full-time Paraeducator Special Education position for the 2026-27 school year, requiring 184 days of work at 6.5 hours per day. The position involves assisting in the instruction of students with disabilities in various settings, including mainstream, resource room, or center-based classrooms. Duties may vary based on student age and disability level but can include managing student behavior, monitoring and recording student progress in academic and daily living skills, and assisting with physical needs such as toileting, feeding, and lifting. The role requires the candidate to be physically present in the building.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
- Must have completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or have passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
- Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
- Ability to supervise students.
- Ability to take direction.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self-care procedures, implementing behavioral management program; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.

Responsibilities
- Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings.
- Manages behavior by redirecting, calming, or removing disruptive students from the classroom.
- Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
- Manages physical needs of students, including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students in wheelchairs.
- Works with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
- Implements behavioral management programs.
- Maintains student data.
