About The Position

This is a full-time Paraeducator Special Education position working 184 days per year, 6.5 hours per day. The position involves assisting in the instruction of students with disabilities in various settings, including mainstream, resource room, or center-based classrooms. Duties can vary based on student age and disability level but may include behavior management, monitoring and recording student progress, and assisting with physical needs such as toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution OR passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
• Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
• Ability to supervise students.
• Ability to take direction.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self-care procedures, implementing behavioral management program; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
• Must be physically working in the building.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings.
• Manages behavior by redirecting, calming, or removing a disruptive student from the classroom.
• Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
• Manages physical needs including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students in wheelchairs.
• Works with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
• Implements behavioral management programs.
• Maintains student data.
• Supervises students.
• Takes direction.
• Maintains regular attendance and completes an assigned day.
