About The Position

This position involves complementing, supplementing, and reinforcing students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms. The paraeducator will work with identified children as required by the program curriculum, participate in in-service sessions and staff meetings, and may be required to assist with routine medical procedures or personal hygiene. Accurate record-keeping of student activities is also a key function.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and/or related experience.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Previous experience working with elementary age children and/or students who are academically at risk.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various staff members, principals, student, teachers and office personnel.
  • Ability to work well under direction of program coordinator and classroom teacher.
  • Show evidence of initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to keep accurate records on activities with students as required by program guidelines.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • May be required to take a skills test.

Responsibilities

  • Complement, supplement and reinforce students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.
  • Work under the direction of the classroom teachers with identified children as required by the program curriculum.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled in-service sessions, both at the local and county level.
  • Attend staff meetings when requested.
  • On an as needed basis paraeducator employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene.
  • Keep accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Principal or classroom teacher.
