About The Position

Complement, supplement, and reinforce students in instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and general education classrooms. This position is for a Classroom Assistant/Special Education Paraeducator reporting to the Building Principal. The role is for the School Year 2026-27, starting in August 2026 at Lakeland High School. The position is part of the HVPEA Contract and involves working 32.5 hours per week. The closing date for applications is 8/21/2026, with external applications accepted until filled. The role requires assisting with material preparation, cleanup, and general student supervision during lunchtime and passing times. On an as-needed basis, para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene. The paraeducator will also track academic or behavioral data as directed by the teacher and complete Medicaid billing monthly.

Requirements

  • Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel
  • Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed
  • Must sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid and complete Medicaid billing monthly
  • Must be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires.
  • Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours.
  • Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to socially and physically manage students who are escalated as directed by the teacher/administrator
  • High School diploma and/or related experience.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with this age or special education students in general is preferred
