About The Position

We would like to announce the opening of Two, Level 2 Paraeducator positions at Castle Rock Elementary School. The positions will be six and one-half (6.5) hours per day five (5) days per week. The position may also require feeding, dressing, toileting, and diapering. Complete job duties may be located in the position description listed below. The successful candidate must possess an Associate's Degree, or two years of college-level coursework, or pass a rigorous assessment (ParaPro). Seniority rights will be exercised according to Article XI, Section 11.5 of the P.S.E. Negotiated Agreement.

Requirements

18 years of age.
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Meet the Washington State Minimum Employment requirements by showing evidence of ONE of the following: Associate Degree, At least 72 quarter of 48 semester credits of 100 level courses or higher, Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment with a score of 461 or higher.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including correct grammar and spelling usage.
Background check through Washington State Patrol, as required by RCW 43.43.830. (Fees apply)
Post high school training and/or significant successful training as a paraeducator.
Demonstrated strength and agility to defend oneself and/or students against physically aggressive behavior.
Demonstrated ability to lift up to 60 lbs. according to established procedures.
Demonstrated organizational skills and commitment to follow through on tasks without direct supervision.
Willingness to participate in related training programs & workshops.
An understanding of the value of providing instructional and other direct services to all children and youth with/without disabilities.
An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of certificated/licensed staff and paraeducators.
Knowledge of patterns of human development, including milestones typically achieved at different ages, and of risk factors that may inhibit or impede typical development.
Knowledge of the legal issues related to the education of children and youth with disabilities and their families.
Awareness of personal care and/or health-related support.

Previous successful experience working with special education students with challenging behavior(s)

Knowledge and understanding of students with high needs
Associate degree in education-related field.
Recent successful experience in a school setting.
Valid first aid card.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the certificated teacher, works in the classroom to correct, improve and reinforce skills of all students with/without various disabilities.
Assists the certificated teacher with instructional and non-instructional activities.
Works in the classroom to correct, improve and reinforce skills of students with various disabilities.
Assessing and recording student progress, and managing resources
Facilitates alternative methods of communication for non-verbal student(s).
Works independently with student(s) as directed by the teacher.
Assists student(s) in carrying out self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, toileting, and diapering.
Practices ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements of confidentiality.
Communicates with colleagues, follows instructions and uses problem solving and other skills that will enable the paraeducator to work as an effective member of the instructional team.
Provides positive behavioral support and management.
Applies knowledge of the elements of effective instruction to assist teaching and learning as developed by the certificated/licensed staff in a variety of settings.
Utilizes appropriate strategies and techniques to provide instructional support in teaching and learning as developed by the certificated/licensed staff.
Motivates and assists children and youth.
Follows health, safety and emergency procedures of the agency where they are employed.
Supervises students during assigned times of responsibility.
Maintains a record of regular attendance, arrives and departs at specified times and notifies appropriate personnel when they must be absent.
Perform related duties as assigned.
