Paraeducator I - 1:1 Elementary Resource Support
About The Position
The Paraeducator I works collaboratively with certificated staff in classrooms or other learning environments, providing instructional support and student supervision. The role includes preparing educational materials; monitoring students’ progress, behavior, and safety; and performing routine clerical tasks that support teachers and other district staff. This is a non-continuing assignment for the 2026–2027 school year only. The assignment is temporary and intended to help meet short-term staffing needs; it expires at the end of employment, with no reasonable assurance of work afterward. The schedule is 6.5 hours per day on a 181-day calendar. Employees must complete mandatory in-person training and orientation before their official start date.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Meet at least one paraeducator qualification: hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university; have completed a paraeducator apprenticeship registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council; or have received a passing score on a PESB-approved assessment or program.
- Possess valid First Aid and CPR certifications or be willing to acquire them, depending on job assignment.
- Employees working in a self-contained classroom must have certification in de-escalation and physical restraint training.
- Complete mandatory in-person training and orientation before the official start date.
