This position is responsible for assisting certificated staff by performing instructional support tasks related to the students' educational development within the total school environment and by being a positive role model for students. The role involves working with students under the direction of certificated teachers to facilitate academic skills and oral language development, learning instructional techniques, and independently carrying out instructional programs. Specific duties include providing targeted early literacy and intermediate math intervention, primarily in English, to students in Grades 3 and 5. Bilingual Spanish/English skills are preferred and may be utilized within the dual language program. The Para-Educator will also provide small-group intervention instruction, assist in the development and use of teaching aids, and collaboratively work with classroom teachers. A strong understanding of elementary mathematics concepts is required, or the ability to acquire it through training. The role also includes assisting in assessing students, monitoring student progress, assisting with record keeping, and promoting positive public relations.
