About The Position

Kingsway is currently seeking a Pantry Chef. The Pantry Chef is responsible for managing the cold food preparation section of the kitchen, commonly referred to as the garde manger. This role oversees the preparation, presentation, and quality of salads, cold appetizers, dressings, and other cold dishes. The Pantry Chef ensures high standards of food safety, quality, and creativity, contributing to the overall dining experience. Kingsway is a locally-owned and family-operated senior living community located on a 25-acre campus in the Woodlawn section of Schenectady, New York. Since 1975. Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in al a carte restaurant or catering setting.
  • Proven experience in a kitchen environment, preferably as a Pantry Chef or Garde Manger.
  • Strong knowledge of cold food preparation techniques and food presentation.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary certification or equivalent experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Attention to detail and creativity in food presentation.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble cold dishes, including salads, appetizers, charcuterie boards, cold sauces, and dressings, according to standardized recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked pantry station, ensuring all ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and labeled.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to coordinate service and ensure timely delivery of dishes during peak hours or events.
  • Monitor and manage inventory for the pantry station, including ordering supplies and minimizing waste.
  • Ensure all food safety and hygiene standards are strictly followed, including proper handling, storage, and preparation of ingredients.
  • Assist in creating and testing new menu items for the cold station in collaboration with the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.
  • Train and guide junior staff or team members assigned to the pantry station.
  • Perform regular equipment checks and report any maintenance needs promptly.
