About The Position

LNG Canada organization has been designed with the panel operator at the center of the production delivery. Reporting directly to the Production Team Leader, the Panel operators will be initially assigned to either LNG Trains or the common facilities area (Utilities, Shipping and loading), however over the course of the career the operator will cross train in the other work area including field positions. The LNG Common areas are comprised of high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment. Also comprised of the utility’s unit, water treatment, marine loading, and condensate storage area, including rail loading. The process trains make up LNG Canada’s main cryogenic process containing 4 aero derivative turbines driving 4 multistage centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, high energy multi-stage pumps. Heat exchangers, vessels, and all associated auxiliary equipment. Requirements

  • Minimum 5 yrs. solid experience in Petrochemical/LNG plant operations as a Panel Technician with experience in Utilities/Water treatment, shipping/storage and loading
  • Completed 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate with firing time or higher
  • Possess a strong commitment to working safely and adhering to safe work practices
  • Possess the ability to adapt to change and be flexible with changing priorities/business needs
  • Possess strong collaboration and communication skills allowing you to build a strong and positive relationship with team members with diverse skillsets and personalities
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Experience with Yokogawa Centrum VP preferred but not required
  • Completion of NFPA 1081 or 1001 is preferred but not required, however some NFPA level certification may be required during run and maintain phase of plant operation if assigned to an emergency response role
  • Coordinate with technical resources or SME for alarm management and optimization of operations
  • Coordinate operation activities with 3rd party’s for delivery of power, feed gas, and LNG/Condensate loading activities
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Must be willing to live full time in Kitimat/Terrace region
  • Know that this is a 12hr rotating shift role with nights and days.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to work nights, weekends, holidays and be on-call to respond to emergencies when required
  • Willing and able to work in field positions as required by shift staffing requirements
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule
  • May have the opportunity to work up in team leader role for development
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 23 kg from ground to waist level
  • Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Willing and able to participate on an emergency response team (if assigned) and able to successfully complete fitness to work assessment
  • Willing to comply with LNG Canada’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedure

Nice To Haves

  • LNG Plant Operator experience is an asset
  • Plant commissioning and start up experience is preferred
  • Experience with Yokogawa Centrum VP preferred but not required
  • Completion of NFPA 1081 or 1001 is preferred but not required, however some NFPA level certification may be required during run and maintain phase of plant operation if assigned to an emergency response role

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to LNG Canada core value, business principles and work practices and processes to ensure safety of self, personnel, process plant and environment.
  • Ensure that plant operations are conducted in a safe, reliable and efficient manner, and that all safety and environmental regulations are followed in accordance to approved operating procedures and standards
  • Develop and maintain technical competency in assigned work areas
  • Proactively monitor and control a large number of process variables to maintain situational awareness over the process unit
  • Continuously optimize plant operations in line with business objectives
  • Direct field operations activities from the panel through startup, shutdown, day-to-day activities, troubleshooting, process optimization
  • Progress through various field, panel operator roles as per the agreed progression plan
  • Respond to emergency situations from the panel, under direction of production team leader to provide first-line emergency response in accordance with emergency procedures
  • Troubleshoot process issues and develop mitigations including creation of quality work orders and efficiently work with maintenance and engineering functions as required
  • Execute unit objectives to meet the overall safety and production goals
  • Participate actively and constructively in safety meetings, inspections, and high potential pre-job safety meetings
  • Perform housekeeping duties as necessary on and around control room; keeping equipment and area clean and clear
  • Support shift team by participating in shift focal point program and other multi-skilling tasks to align with LNG Canada’s vision of a multiskilled future work force
  • Assist training new shift team members to build competency
  • Work seamlessly with other panel operators to maintain smooth control of the entire complex
  • Ensure that safety critical document registers are updated
  • Work with other disciplines to develop and utilize digitization initiatives that benefit Production work processes and systems, challenge industry norms and future proof the business
