About The Position

The Panel Technician will be responsible for executing the daily fabrication duties inside our UL certified electrical Panel shop, ensuring timely and efficient task completion while maintaining high-quality standards. This position requires strong technical expertise and the ability to coordinate activities effectively to meet production goals. The Panel Technician reports to the Instrumentation & Controls Manager and works closely with the electrical technicians on the manufacturing team. The individual will be exposed to noise from machinery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years related electrical experience: Industrial paneling, wiring cabinets, wiring equipment, working with instrumentation and other energized equipment
  • 2+ years in field-based, hands-on work
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively whether verbal or written with teammates, supervisors, vendors, and, occasionally, customers.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and written instructions.
  • Computer skills, particularly proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in inventory control, including setting up and managing new inventory processes.
  • Excellent safety track record and proven ability to comply with safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements, including all PCI standards, site-specific standards, and federal, state, municipal or other regulatory agency codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and resolution skills, critical thinking ability, and sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Proven active listening skills and oral comprehension abilities.
  • Demonstrated effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and must maintain a driving record acceptable to local authorities and ProChem insurance carriers.
  • Must be able to maintain bodies in good physical condition to ensure the individual’s own safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical degree or license such as Journeyman (preferred)
  • Previous experience with water treatment equipment (preferred)
  • UL Certification in electrical trade (preferred)
  • MCC experience (preferred)
  • NFPA70E certification (preferred)
  • OSHA 10 hour certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical panel fabrication tasks for Water Systems projects in the panel shop, including assembling control panels, preparing for exterior components (e.g., HMIs, fans), and labeling/wiring components (e.g., VFDs, PLCs, MPCBs, fuses).
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and written instructions for accurate execution of tasks.
  • Work with PLC controls and troubleshoot issues with PLC equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors to update them on job status, requirements, and any potential issues.
  • Assist in developing wiring diagrams and panel layouts/designs under the guidance of the Electrical Engineer.
  • Review wiring diagrams and provide detailed feedback, ensuring accuracy in voltage and components (e.g., breakers, transmitters, terminals).
  • Suggest edits to panel layout as needed and work with the Field Supervisor and/or Electrical Engineer to implement.
  • Generate order requisitions for cabinets, cabinet components, and panel wire.
  • Perform receiving tasks for incoming shipments to the panel shop, including processing paperwork and conducting UL reviews to ensure labels, manuals, and other documentation are attached and complete.
  • Manage panel shop inventory through accurate labeling, bin setup, and use of scanners and barcodes for tracking.
  • Collaborate with the Buyer/Planner to establish and monitor inventory reorder points; conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as a backup for inventory control tasks in the WS Shop, specifically for items such as pumps, tanks, PVC, raw materials, and other related inventory.
  • Maintain accurate quality records, including logbooks and task punch lists.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards in work processes and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report near-miss incidents and accidents; actively participate in follow-up investigations and corrective actions.
  • Work with the Lead Electrical Technician, Shop Supervisor, Field Supervisor, and Lead Assembly Technician to implement improvement initiatives.
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites as needed to perform I/O checks and system commissioning, ensuring proper functionality and performance of electrical systems.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, certifications, and industry activities.
