About The Position

AltaGas is seeking a Panel Control Operator to join their REEF Terminal Operations team. This role reports to the Shift Supervisor and involves supporting commissioning and startup (CSU) as well as ready-for-operations (RFO) activities both in the field and in the control room. Following startup, the operator will manage the flow of propane and butane from railcars through chilling processes into LPG storage and VLGC vessel loading operations from a DeltaV DCS control console. The primary focus is on ensuring all work aligns with AltaGas’ Core Values: safety, collaboration, integrity, inclusion, and learning. The position requires a strong safety mindset and a forward-looking, technical approach to leading a team of Plant and Rail Operators, in coordination with the Shift Supervisor and Senior Management, while maintaining compliance with operational procedures and meeting customer expectations. This is a full-time position based in Prince Rupert, BC, and is not camp-based.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Gas Plant or Terminal Operations, with demonstrated leadership in control room operations.
  • Minimum 2 years of control room experience, preferably with DeltaV (other systems considered).
  • Previous experience in facility start-up and commissioning.
  • 4th Class Power Engineering certification required.
  • Strong passion for team training and development.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EHS and PSM systems such as Maximo and Intelex is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Champion personal safety leadership in accordance with AltaGas’ Environment, Health and Safety Program.
  • Ensure compliance with AltaGas policies, standards, and procedures during all operational activities.
  • Develop and execute operational procedures, lock-out/tag-out packages, and support Operational Plan development with the Shift Supervisor and Operations, Maintenance & Project (OMP) Coordinator.
  • Operate the DeltaV DCS system with proficiency and competency.
  • Monitor CCTV PTZ security cameras to maintain situational awareness.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with UHF/VHF radios.
  • Lead and support incident reporting and investigations, including analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain facility housekeeping standards.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the training program.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained, routine shift maintenance is completed, and additional work orders are entered in Maximo.
  • Lead and support team efforts in equipment lockout/tagout, ensuring proper isolation for maintenance.
  • Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety meetings.
