About The Position

This role involves the setup and operation of a strapper machine to strap bundles or units of product efficiently. The operator will be responsible for attaching load tags, ensuring product conformity to standards, and performing final quality checks before shipment. This position also includes training new employees, maintaining the equipment, and keeping the work area clean. The company is International Paper, a leader in sustainable packaging solutions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1 year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret written documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, factory orders, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure (English and Metric systems), using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read an English and Metric system tape measure.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, or crouch.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to humid conditions and temperature variations.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Hearing protection is required.

  • Ability to learn to perform the normal duties in the next classification in this line of progression.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate the strapper machine.
  • Strap bundles/units of product in a timely manner.
  • Attain and attach load tags to every unit.
  • Ensure pads are straight and easily available.
  • Ensure all units meet conformity standards (neat in appearance, no noticeable defects, etc.).
  • Perform final quality check of units before they go to Shipping.
  • Communicate effectively if problems are detected.
  • Clean and maintain strapper heads.
  • Keep strapper rolls filled.
  • Check for trim in the units.
  • Train others on all aspects of strapper operation.
  • Keep work area clean and free of debris.
  • Empty dumpster.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
