About The Position

Under the direction of the team leader, the palletizer operator is responsible to operate, monitor and adjust the palletizing equipment in a manner consistent with production needs and quality standards. This role involves maintaining safe work practices, monitoring line-flow rates, ordering materials, monitoring palletizer equipment, ensuring proper container sizing, recording machinery efficiencies, troubleshooting equipment, reworking product, giving breaks to other employees, instructing laborers, counting and identifying product, coordinating ticketing, operating terminal keyboards, preparing and monitoring paperwork, coordinating with lab personnel, communicating with supervisors and leads, following detailed instructions, collecting paperwork, learning lot numbers and product details, ensuring proper ticketing and coding, setting priorities with minimal supervision, and assisting in normal packaging duties. May be required to work in cold temperatures for short periods of time and is capable of meeting the functions of a package laborer. Trains other potential palletizers.

Requirements

  • Understand and demonstrate approved procedures for Manifesting: bay transfer, Inbound/Outbound manifesting of Product, Inbound/Outbound manifesting of dry supplies, printing out a tote/pallet ticket, inspecting a pallet of cased product, printing out a rework report, looking up a bulk code, describing what each number on a case code represents, identifying when one day is separated from the next, process of restricting product, voiding tickets, and blending tickets.
  • Understand and demonstrate approved procedures for Palletizer operations: parts of the Palletizer, causes of pallet jams, clearing out the palletizer, correcting case counts, checks needed before starting up after a jam at the row pusher, manually operating different functions, clearing out a pallet jam in the pallet dispenser, inspecting pallets for use, changing programs on the Palletizer, manually operating the apron, hoist, and pushers, locating and describing the function of different photo eyes, actions after pushing a defective case to hand palletizing, meaning of a no line or case code selected error, lockout procedures before unplugging the pallet discharge area, and whether the palletizers single line program enables a case count.
  • Understand and demonstrate approved procedures for Wrapper operations: parts of the wrapper, changing a roll of shrink wrap, starting up the wrapper, manually operating the rollers, and what to do if the pallet does not move and the tamp did not apply the ticket.
  • Understand and demonstrate approved procedures for Auto manifest printer operations: starting up the auto manifestor printer, threading the auto manifest printer, cleaning the print head and rollers, and what to do if the printer has a malfunction and is about to shut down the palletizer.
  • Understand and demonstrate approved procedures for Auto manifest program operations: starting up the auto manifest program, performing a bay transfer, understanding auto manifest icons, setting up the lines, restricting pallets, editing tickets, setting the production time offset, switching from repack to lineflow, and editing freezer bays.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform daily and/or weekend clean up procedures.
  • Understands and demonstrates ability to work with chemicals.
  • Completes checks and fills out required forms accurately.
  • Maintains required job activity frequencies.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform job functions independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with Team Leaders, Leads, Mechanics and other processing and packaging personnel.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to write accurate information on simple forms in English.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information to co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience isn’t required, but it would be helpful to be knowledgeable of recordkeeping, computer usage, experience in the lab to fully understand quality, and proper and improper blending impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
  • Monitors line-flow rates for proper feed of cases through palletizers for maximum efficiency.
  • Monitors palletizer equipment, including checking cases for Q.A. standards, adjusting for different stack patterns, supplying with slip sheets and stretch-wrap film, ensuring proper force to load for optimum stretch wrap performance, and maintaining a supply of pallets.
  • Monitors line sanitation, keeping floors clean and ensuring all packaging is clean and food safe.
  • Ensures proper container sizing.
  • Records packaging machinery efficiencies, downtime and fills out reports accurately and correctly.
  • Responsible for insuring complete package quality of product taking regular checks of seals, codes etc..
  • Troubleshoots equipment operation, identifying mechanical and electrical equipment problems and taking action by notifying proper personnel.
  • Operates equipment with minimum waste.
  • Reworks product in an expeditious manner reusing fiber when appropriate.
  • Gives other employees breaks as directed by the supervisor.
  • Instructs packaging laborers, general laborers and temporary employees where and how to work to insure efficient operation of the palletizing area as directed by the supervisor.
  • Must be able to count and identify product and coordinate ticketing accurately.
  • Operates terminal keyboard for tickets printed (inbound/outbound bulk, inbound dry storage materials, waste product).
  • Prepares and monitors paperwork for bay transfers, rework, blending, waste reports, bulk reports, end of shift reports, and drivers' logs.
  • Coordinates with lab personnel for proper dispositioning of held product.
  • Frequently communicates with supervisors, leads, driver, tote room attendants, etc.
  • Follows detailed instructions.
  • Collects all necessary paperwork at end of shift and submits to warehouse for filing.
  • Learns or has knowledge of lot #'s, catalog #'s, cut style, blending requirements and impacts.
  • Ensures proper ticketing and coding of all product.
  • Must be able to set priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Gives breaks to fellow workers as directed by the supervisor.
  • Will assist as needed in normal packaging duties such as rework and cleanup.
  • May be required to work in cold temperatures for short periods of time.
  • Capable of meeting functions of package laborer.
  • Trains other potential palletizers.
