About The Position

Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager for Architectural Trades, the Painter performs journey-level work in the painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations. Requirements

  • Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter’s apprenticeship program.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Ability to obtain AHERA Supervisor certification for asbestos related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing.
  • Apply undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods including brush, roll, and spray.
  • Mix and match paints and finishes.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations as well as inspect related work performed by contractors.
  • Estimate time, cost and materials for painting projects.
  • Participate in the maintenance and operations of a paint shop including the cleaning and maintenance of painting and finishing materials, tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
