About The Position

The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) at UC Irvine provides essential services and support to the university community. Facilities Management, within DFA, is responsible for the effective operation and maintenance of the campus infrastructure, including buildings, grounds, and utilities. This department ensures a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environment to support academic, research, and public service programs. Facilities Management manages over 150 buildings, approximately 46 million gross square feet, and 1,475 acres of grounds, employing around 325 personnel across various skilled trades and professional roles. The department manages a significant annual operating budget and oversees major infrastructure and renovation projects.

Requirements

  • Skill and knowledge with state-of-the-art painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, extension poles, scaffolding, steep and extension ladders.
  • Skill and knowledge in patching walls, ceilings, and wood filling, and knowledge of various materials for these tasks.
  • Skill and knowledge to do drywall finishing, including operating a Hopper gun for texturing effect.
  • Skill and knowledge of acrylic, oil, and/or stains and their application by conventional or airless spray equipment on various materials including wood, stucco, metal, and block.
  • Skill and knowledge to read and/or interpret blueprints and color schedules.
  • Ability to read, speak, and write the English language well.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to pass a medical examination for the purpose of wearing a required respirator.
  • 1-3 years of experience with state-of-the-art painting equipment; brushes, rollers, extension poles, scaffolding, steep and extension ladders.
  • Must possess a valid California driver license.
  • Must have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surfaces and applies appropriate finishes to interior and exterior substrates, including wood, paneling, plaster, stucco, brick, block, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and drywall.
  • Performs drywall finishing, including operating a Hopper gun for texturing effects.
  • Operates and maintains conventional and airless spray equipment, including a Wagner airless stripper.
  • Uses and maintains paintbrushes, rollers, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Tints paints using a colorant tinting machine.
