About The Position

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston is looking for a Painter to join their team. The role involves the application of finishes to company products, aircraft, assemblies, parts, and test coupons. The team at Airbus Aerosystems Kinston manufactures crucial aircraft components and is composed of individuals passionate about aviation and skilled in various areas. The facility specializes in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures, building critical components for the Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work any shift.
  • Workkeys Assessment completion OR High School Diploma/GED
  • Vision: Daily able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Daily able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Rarely able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: Weekly able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: Weekly able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Several times a month able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Daily able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.
  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various processing, coating application, and parts identification, along with repair and minor assembly in the manufacture of company products.
  • Develop new and improved methods of production.
  • Use any job-related equipment (e.g., hand, power tools, air tools and computers) needed to complete/process their work assignments.
  • Perform process activities including painting, media blasting, masking, stenciling, part identification marking, etc., to support production requirements.
  • Perform hand finishing operations typical of preparation of surfaces to be painted by use of pneumatic sanders or by hand.
  • Work from Blueprints, Process Instructions, Customer specifications, Job Aids, Work Instructions, and written/verbal information.
  • Access and work to material MSDS data and comply with Spirit Safety policies.
  • Maintain certifications, qualifications, licenses, or permits as required to perform work.
  • Ability to work from elevated platforms, e.g., Lifts, scaffolding, ladders.
  • Set-up and use test equipment to ensure applications meet customer requirements by performing self-inspections of in-process and finished work.
  • Input all required data into FDAQ database.
  • Perform any pickup, rework, and incorporation of changes to the product as required.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, proper disposal of materials, and follow Spirit's "Clean as you Go" policy while performing duties in Paint Booths and designated areas.
  • Maintain and keep Paint Mix room clean and organized at all times.
  • Perform routine minor equipment maintenance as part of daily work duties (e.g., cleaning of paint equipment and routine replacement of packings, O rings, valves, etc.).
  • Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across aisle, using shop assigned equipment including ovens and overhead cranes, as required and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
  • Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and assisting employees of the same or lower classification level.
  • Assist and demonstrate practices followed during all internal and external audits.
  • Assist Assembly Technicians as required or as requested by Manager or Team Lead.
