As a Painter - Team Lead, you are a vital team member in the process of building CAT equipment. You can expect to Lead daily production on an industrial production paint line safely, providing manpower coverages, train and develop people, you may also manually and electronically update daily & weekly metric white boards, providing input on schedule adjustments, adjusting manpower within paint teams, and participating in daily production dialogs with team and management. As hands on lead this will also include production line paint processes wash, mask, paint, de-mask and touchup.

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience in heavy equipment, automotive or military paint processing or a paint related certificate or certified trade school/technical degree in paint related field
  • Leadership experience (in any industry)
  • Experience in top coat, prime coat and electrostatic process
  • Ability to read blueprints/engineering drawings
  • Minimum of 6 months intermediate to advanced computer usage

Nice To Haves

  • 6-month minimum experience with Caterpillar Paving Products
  • Heavy crane equipment experience
  • Ability to read standard work and write continuous improvement cards
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Ability to utilize computer for production transactions, standard work updates and various projects
  • Experience using paint tools including cup paint gun, sanders and buffers
  • Knowledge of paint properties
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar standards for paint quality (1E 2001 specs for paint)

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production on an industrial production paint line safely
  • Provide manpower coverages
  • Train and develop people
  • Manually and electronically update daily & weekly metric white boards
  • Provide input on schedule adjustments
  • Adjust manpower within paint teams
  • Participate in daily production dialogs with team and management
  • Perform production line paint processes: wash, mask, paint, de-mask and touchup
  • Work with support functions to identify and resolve issues related to safety, quality, process and delivery checks
  • Address issues related to equipment, fixture, tool, process, quality, delivery and product/layout changes to ensure daily production schedules are met
  • Coordinate continuous improvement ideas to maintain and emphasize standard work by identifying, driving, and sustaining improvements in alignment with Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Train and develop employees on job skills, problem solving and cross training
  • Provide recognition to employee contributions
  • Provide coverage for team member absences and/or production fluctuation
