About The Position

This role is responsible for performing painting duties and assisting with general maintenance tasks within a senior living community. The Painter / Maintenance Assistant will ensure that vacant apartments are prepared for new residents and that the community's appearance is maintained to high standards. This position requires adherence to safety regulations and company policies, while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor with residents, staff, and vendors.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience painting residential or commercial spaces.
Knowledge of applicable health and safety standards.
Good planning and organization skills.
Attention to detail.
Solid communication skills.
Good balance and physical strength.
Knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, and different types of paint and finishes.
Familiarity with basic repair procedures for plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
Understanding of safety regulations and procedures.
Proficient in using painting tools and equipment.
Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a vocational training program in painting, carpentry, or a related trade is preferred.
Certification in painting, construction, or a related field is preferred.
Experience in a healthcare or large institutional setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

Communicate with supervisor to determine painting requirements and assist in decision-making for projects.
Complete the make-ready process for vacant apartments as directed by the Maintenance Director.
Cover trim, floors, furniture, and other surfaces with protective coverings.
Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, filling holes and cracks, and sanding.
Apply primer and other sealers to ensure paint adhesion.
Mix and match paint, stain, and other finishes to job specifications.
Apply paint, stain, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
Maintain an inventory of painting supplies.
Remove old finishes using scrapers or chemical compounds.
Estimate time and material costs for painting projects.
Clean machines, equipment, and work areas.
Review and implement work orders and assignments.
Remove and reinstall fixtures as necessary.
Alert the Maintenance Director of any unusual occurrences or damage.
Maintain a professional and courteous manner with residents, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees.
Ensure compliance with all safety standards and company guidelines.
Follow established company policies and Employee Handbook guidelines.
Undertake special projects and other responsibilities as determined.
