Paint Team Member
About The Position
Paint Team Members apply and inspect powder coat and wet paint finishes on parts used in Protomet products. The finishing process uses automated equipment, documented work instructions, engineering-defined standards, and team member expertise. Team members are expected to develop proficiency across the department’s finishing operations, including surface preparation, masking, powder coating, wet paint application, inspection, and material handling. They help deliver finishes that meet customer requirements for appearance, durability, and quality. Protomet is expanding its finishing capabilities to include powder coat and wet paint applications. Industrial wet paint experience is strongly encouraged and can help accelerate development and standardization of wet paint processes. Experience is welcome, but Protomet also develops employees through its apprenticeship program. The role emphasizes efficiency, safety, quality, a positive attitude, and ongoing learning.

Responsibilities
- Hang parts for powder coat and wet paint processing.
- Blow off, clean, and mask parts before coating application.
- Prepare surfaces through sanding, cleaning, and minor repair of surface blemishes.
- Operate powder coat application equipment and maintain proper booth operation.
- Apply wet paint finishes according to documented work instructions and quality standards.
- Mix, prepare, and handle paint materials in accordance with approved processes and safety requirements.
- Inspect coated and painted parts for coverage, appearance, adhesion, and quality requirements.
- Load completed parts into designated containers and staging locations.
- Grind and finish parts requiring surface preparation or smoothing.
- Cross-train and maintain proficiency in all finishing department processes, including powder coat and wet paint operations.
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts to standardize finishing processes and improve quality, efficiency, and safety.
