About The Position

The Paint Shop Utility Operator is responsible for preparing and mixing coating materials, operating and maintaining the automated paint system, and ensuring parts are coated to quality standards. This role involves working from specifications, cleaning equipment, preparing surfaces, loading and unloading parts, and performing quality checks on the finished product. The operator will also be responsible for maintaining solution levels, performing calculations for prep tank titration, and using a computer for documentation. Safety and maintaining a clean work area are paramount.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and other material handling
  • Ability to use a computer and web based programs
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow verbal/written work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and mixes powder and other coating materials to match standardized colors, consistencies, and viscosities.
  • Checks pressures, adjusts air flow of powder pots, and ensures drying even temperature and conveyor speed are set according to area to be covered, viscosities, and changing atmospheric conditions.
  • Cleans guns, nozzles, and equipment with proper solvents or other cleaning materials, changes nozzles as required, and prepares surfaces for coating.
  • Loads and unloads parts on conveyor system, checking for defects or damaged parts.
  • Checks coating finish for proper baking and appearance to meet quality standards.
  • Places prescribed protective material between and around parts into containers to ensure that finishes are not marred.
  • Cleans and prepares parts for finishing processes in the Prep Area.
  • Checks and maintains all solution levels needed to maintain a high quality for finished products.
  • Takes samples and performs calculations for prep tank titration.
  • Closes and releases demand flow items to production.
  • Uses the computer for writing up non-conforming material and cycle counts.
  • Operates and maintains the automated paint system.
  • Follows safety rules and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
