About The Position

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading daily production and powder coat painting operations through strong floor leadership, employee development, accountability, and cross-functional coordination. This role ensures safety, quality, throughput, and on-time completion goals are met by setting clear expectations, coaching employees, removing barriers, and driving consistent execution. Technical knowledge of powder coat painting processes is important to effectively lead the team, recognize process issues, support troubleshooting, and partner with Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering on improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical degree in a related field and at least 3 years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, set expectations, coach employees, address performance issues, and drive accountability in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience in powder coat painting, industrial finishing, metal finishing, or a related manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of powder coating materials, surface preparation, pretreatment systems, electrostatic application equipment, curing ovens, conveyors, and finished-part inspection methods is a strong differentiator.
  • Ability to interpret production schedules, work instructions, quality requirements, process documentation, and performance reports to make sound operational decisions.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented production environment while balancing safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement priorities.
  • Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office; Oracle skills are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop production leads, employees, and contractors to achieve safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and departmental performance goals.
  • Set daily priorities, assign work, monitor progress, and adjust staffing, workflow, and resources to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Provide visible floor leadership by reinforcing expectations, addressing issues promptly, supporting team communication, and creating a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Use powder coat painting knowledge to oversee key process steps, including part preparation, racking, pretreatment, powder application, color changes, curing, inspection, and finished-part handling.
  • Recognize and escalate process concerns related to coating coverage, film thickness, cure time and temperature, cleanliness, adhesion, color consistency, scrap, rework, and first-pass quality.
  • Guide the team in identifying powder coating defects and partner with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Management to resolve root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure employees and contractors follow company policies, standard operating procedures, safety requirements, PPE expectations, and environmental handling practices for powder, chemicals, and waste.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and production support teams on equipment readiness, cleaning, changeovers, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance needs for paint line equipment.
  • Lead shift meetings to communicate KPIs, production priorities, safety topics, quality concerns, operational changes, and performance expectations.
  • Review and act on KPIs including productivity, scrap, rework, downtime, quality, powder usage, first-pass yield, and on-time completion.
  • Support training, cross-training, staffing, scheduling, performance management, and employee accountability to build a capable and flexible team.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, training, material usage, and process documentation.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities that reduce waste, improve line efficiency, strengthen first-pass quality, and improve overall team performance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, 5S-focused, and safe production and paint environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
