Serves under the direction of the Fire Chief, and other fire department supervisors.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
  • Entry-level firefighter position, no experience necessary.
  • Successfully pass a background investigation, physical, psychological examination, and a one-year probationary period.
  • Pass an annual physical examination.
  • Ability to obtain the following certifications upon hire: Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Material Awareness Certification, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • 9-minute response time to Lino Lakes Fire Department Station 1 (7741 Lake Dr.) or Lino Lakes Fire Department Station 2 (1710 Birch St.).
  • Knowledge, proficiency, and accuracy in the use of computer applications, software/hardware, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), and common database applications (word processing, spreadsheets, and power point presentations).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information and ideas to colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and members of the public.
  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of fire services procedures and practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to work varied hours to attend meetings and accomplish the mission of the Fire Department.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents as a firefighter and emergency medical technician.
  • Performs firefighting activities, including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and other related tasks.
  • Responds to calls for emergency medical services and renders first aid.
  • Maintains fire equipment and apparatus in accordance with department standards.
  • Completes reports, forms, and data entry into fire record management system and other related databases.
  • Works with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Assists in conducting fire investigations as needed.
  • Assists with fire prevention and safety education efforts.
  • Participates in public safety training and meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as apparent or assigned.
