About The Position

The City of Warren is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Firefighter. This role involves responding to emergency situations, providing medical assistance, and protecting lives and property. The starting salary ranges from $68,803 to $102,658 per year after 5 years of service. Candidates with experience from IAFF represented fire departments may qualify for higher starting wages.

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older by the closing date for applications.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in the State of Michigan.
  • Paramedic License from the Michigan Department of Health (must be obtained by date of hire).
  • Fire Fighter I and II certifications.
  • Pass the written test administered through EMPCO Inc. within the past year with a score of 70 percent or higher.
  • Pass the oral interview with a score of 70 percent or higher.
  • Complete the online profile and take the written exam by October 30, 2026.
  • Upload Driver’s license.
  • Upload High school diploma or G.E.D. or transcripts.
  • Upload Social Security card.
  • Upload Birth certificate/proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Upload Paramedic license.
  • Upload Fire Fighter I and II certifications.
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Pass a physical examination including drug screening and a psychological evaluation.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience from IAFF represented fire departments.
  • Firefighters with 2 or more years of full-time firefighting experience may qualify for a higher starting wage.
  • Provide an official (sealed by the school) college transcript for preference points.
  • Certificate in Fire Science from an accredited college or university for preference points.
  • Associate degree or higher degree in Fire Science from an accredited college or university for preference points.
  • Provide a copy of Form DD214 or NGB22 to qualify for veteran's preference points.
  • Have a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) to copy the original certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and provide fire suppression and rescue services.
  • Administer medical aid as a licensed Paramedic.
  • Protect lives and property.
  • Operate fire apparatus and equipment.
  • Participate in training and maintain physical fitness.
