The Mercer Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities for the Fall 2026 semester. The intern will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and lookups, filing, and making photocopies. The interns will gain a broad insight and knowledge of the court system. Flexible schedules are available. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Hours and days worked are flexible but must be between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Monday through Friday excluding State holidays. Internships may be available for the following divisions: Trial Court Administration, Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre-Trial Services, Family, Finance, Information Technology, Municipal, Operations, Human Resources, Probation and the Ombudsman Office.

Requirements

  • Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.
  • In order to qualify for an internship in the Criminal Pre-Trial Services or Probation divisions, applicants must have thirty credit hours from an accredited college pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Unofficial College or University transcript must be included with your application in order to be considered.
  • Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
  • US citizenship is not required.
  • Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
  • Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
  • All applicants must complete the work experience and education sections and attach any required documents.
  • Applications must describe all relevant work experience in detail, beginning with your current or most recent job, including military service (indicate rank), internships and job-related volunteer work, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court.
  • Assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and lookups, filing, and making photocopies.
  • Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails.
  • Contact and follow-up with applicants, defendants, court users, and/or members of the public.
  • Organize and scan paper files/filings by parties and upload scans into an electronic filing system.
  • Perform special projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis.
  • Perform computer related work.
  • Collect and data.
  • Provide customer service.
  • Draft correspondences and memos.
  • Observe client interviews and court proceedings.
  • Attend community planning meetings.
  • Assist staff and perform other duties as directed.
