The Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities for Spring 2027. The interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and information retrieval, filing, and making photocopies. Interns will gain broad insight into the court system. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Hours and days worked are flexible but must be between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Monday through Friday excluding State holidays. Requirements

  • Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.
  • For Criminal-Pretrial Services and/or Probation Divisions: Thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • For All Other Divisions: Thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.
  • Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
  • US citizenship is not required.
  • Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
  • Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.

  • Internships may be available in the following locations: Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and/or Cape May Court House.
  • Any person may request an exemption from the New Jersey residency requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court.
  • Assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and information retrieval, filing, and making photocopies.
  • Treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect.
  • Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails.
  • Contact and follow-up with applicants, defendants, court users, and/or members of the public.
  • Organize and scan paper files/filings by parties and upload scans into an electronic filing system.
  • Perform special projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis.
  • Perform computer related work.
  • Collect and enter data.
  • Provide customer service.
  • Draft correspondences and memos.
  • Observe client interviews and court proceedings.
  • Attend community planning meetings.
  • Assist staff and perform other duties as directed.

Benefits

  • The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.
  • This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.
  • Interns generally are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
