About The Position

The Middlesex Vicinage is currently accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities within the New Jersey Judiciary. Interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, and customer service duties in connection with court proceedings. This role offers a broad insight and knowledge of the court system. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Internships may be available for various divisions including Trial Court Administration, Civil, Criminal, Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA), Family, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Municipal, Operations, and Ombudsman.

Requirements

  • Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
  • Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
  • All applicants must complete the work experience and education sections and attach any required documents.
  • Applications must describe all relevant work experience in detail, beginning with your current or most recent job, including military service (indicate rank), internships and job-related volunteer work, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of clerical, administrative, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court.
  • Assist with tasks such as data entry and lookups, filing, and making photocopies.
  • Prepare filings for judge and staff review, including document retrieval, and providing documents to chambers.
  • Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails.
  • Research caseloads.
  • Calendar management.
  • Moderate virtual hearings.
  • Assist with client contact for newly assigned cases and reminders.
  • Perform special projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis.
  • Observe client interviews and court proceedings.
  • Perform computer-related work.
  • Collect and enter data.
  • Provide customer service.
  • Draft correspondence and memos.
  • Assist staff as directed.
