About The Position

The PACU Registered Nurse, under the supervision of the PeriAnesthesia Director, is responsible for providing peri-operative patient care in accordance with nursing judgment, regulatory and accreditation standards, and the facility's mission, vision, and values. This role involves direct and indirect patient care across the age continuum, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Administrative responsibilities include physician marketing, cost awareness, and adherence to staffing schedules. The position supervises other Registered Nurses and directs ancillary staff in Pre-Operative and Post-Operative areas. The role also assists with administrative tasks related to Risk Management, Employee Health, Infection Control, Performance Improvement, and Clinical Recruitment/Retention. In collaboration with nursing leadership, the PeriAnesthesia Registered Nurse may assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure cost-effective, safe, and high-quality care. The position requires projecting a professional demeanor, maintaining confidentiality, adhering to HIPAA, and reporting any suspected violations of laws, rules, regulations, or the SP Code of Conduct. Annual continuing education requirements must be fulfilled. Personal attributes include being self-directed, accountable, professional, receptive to change, and seeking guidance when needed. The role requires working under stress, demonstrating patience, stamina, endurance, and tact while providing excellent service. Fostering teamwork, assisting others, and performing requested job duties are essential. Requirements

• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing with current and valid licensure with Texas State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS & ACLS required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• PALS certification required within 60 days of hire.
• 2 years of nursing experience required in ICU/Emergency Room/Recovery Room or other critical care-nursing environment.
• Is aware of professional nursing standard and performs in accordance with them.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Knowledge of state, federal and accrediting body regulations and standards related to healthcare.
• Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Demonstrates ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for his/her own professional advancement and that of others.
• Must be computer literate with basic fundamental computer skills that are required to perform essential job related duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care across the age continuum using the nursing process.

• Keep customers informed of progress related to clinical operations and provide comfort, information, and assistance.

• Review daily schedule and prepare patient care areas based upon types of procedures and specific patient care needs.
• Communicate changes in status as necessary to physicians, family members, and other staff.
• Initiate physical and psycho/social assessment and pre-operative plan of care.
• Identify patient and obtain informed consent.
• Complete and document a pre-operative interview.
• Obtain necessary diagnostic test results.
• Notify appropriate physicians and staff regarding variances and/or concerns.
• Complete and document post-operative phone calls.
• Report problems and/or concerns from post-operative calls.
• Complete the Post-Anesthesia record.
• Assure all patients have met the discharge criteria prior to discharge.
• Provide all patients post-operative instructions.
• Assure the delivery of quality clinical care through participation in SP benchmarking programs.
• Assure facility clinical policies and procedures are followed.
• Maintain a safe clinical environment.
• Adhere to all patient care safety requirements.
• Review and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Ensure medical record documentation is accurate, legible, and in accordance with federal and accrediting standards.
• Participate in quality improvement activities.
• Conserve resources and minimize cost when possible.
• Participate and assist with implementation of cost saving initiatives for the department.
• Communicate ideas for cost containment and reducing expense.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and overtime is below established benchmarks.
• Contribute to the growth of the facility through competency and customer service.
• Communicate service line development ideas with facility leadership.
• Engage in customer service conversations with physicians as adjunct to facility marketing initiatives.
