The PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for providing peri-operative patient care in accordance with sound nursing judgment, regulatory and accreditation standards, and the facility's mission, vision, and values. This role involves direct and indirect patient care across the age continuum, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Administrative responsibilities include physician marketing, cost awareness, and adherence to staffing schedules. The nurse supervises other Registered Nurses and directs ancillary staff in the Pre-Operative and Post-Operative areas. This position also assists with administrative tasks related to Risk Management, Employee Health, Infection Control, Performance Improvement, and Clinical Recruitment/Retention. In conjunction with nursing leadership, the PeriAnesthesia Registered Nurse may assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure cost-effective, safe, and high-quality care. The role requires maintaining patient and facility confidentiality, adhering to HIPAA, and reporting any suspected violations of laws or the company's Code of Conduct. Annual continuing education requirements must be fulfilled. Personal attributes include being self-directed, accountable, professional, receptive to change, and seeking guidance when needed. The ability to work under stress, with patience, stamina, endurance, and tact, while providing excellent service is essential. Fostering teamwork and a willingness to assist others is expected, along with performing other job duties as requested. Setting priorities, responding timely to issues, and ensuring desired results through consistent follow-through are key. The patient population served ranges from 6 months to geriatric patients requiring or seeking pain and/or surgical intervention.
